Bathroom designs for very small spaces

Opt for a Leggy Table

A little table with an open base does not close off space in the master W.C. of designer Thom Filicia's upstate New York lake house. Towel racks over the bath are both convenient and save on wall space in a Park Avenue apartment.

Continue Floor Tile Into the Shower

In a New York City bathroom, designer Alla Akimova ran zigzag tile into the shower stall. "It makes the room feel bigger," she says. "If I'd changed materials, it'd have interrupted the space."

Go Big With Your Mirror Selection

In a Vermont cottage designed by Deirdre Heekin and Caleb Barber, the cedar toilet's clawfoot bath is made glamorous by painting it midnight blue. A mirror over the bath creates the delusion of a bigger space.

Know Where to Save on Space

Should you want a huge bathtub (it's the only method you can unwind) then make sure you're saving space elsewhere. Here, designer Amanda Reilly incorporated built in shelves into the wall supporting the bathtub for towels and products.

Try to Curve the Corners

We are not recommending for cutting corners, simply curving them. By making the edge of your vanity softer and rounded, like designer Frank Hodge did here, you'll gain back space and you're not as inclined to slam into the edge when you are in a rush (win-win!).
